Roofing Contractors – Why Hire a Professional?

Roofing is one of those aspects of home building that can seem difficult to describe, but in actuality, if you’ve ever been inside of a real home, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Roofing is probably one of the most important aspects of home building; in fact, without a properly functioning roof, a home is nothing more than a pile of cinders sitting in the breeze until it starts to rain. In many parts of North America, roofs are usually the first point of contact between the outside environment and the home, which mean that they’re usually very durable, strong, and long lasting.

Roofing itself is a complex process, but basically, there are two main types of roofing materials used in construction of homes, roofing felt and roofing tiles. Roofing felt is the most common type of roofing material and the cheapest type of roofing material, but it is also the most susceptible to damage, especially from wind, hail, and heavy rain. When roofing tiles are used, the roofing contractors often use asphalt shingles which are the strongest, toughest, and most reliable roofing material on earth, but they are also the most expensive roofing material available to homeowners. There are advantages and disadvantages to both roofing felt and roofing tiles, with the main being labor costs.

If the roof has leaks, the roofing contractors will often wait until after the roofing is installed and repair the leaks before repairing the roof. After the repairs are made, then the roofer adds weather stripping to the seams of the roof, again protecting the roof from leaks. The problem is that since the repairs aren’t waterproof, leaks continue to occur, and when leaks continue, water damage to the interior of your home usually occurs. This process is called “crawlspace seepage”, which causes the interior of your home to become flooded.
